Tops Tips For Cat Care

Cats are independent by nature but they will still require your love and care. As a pet owner it is your task to become fully educated about how to properly provide for the needs of your cat. So if you have recently brought home a feline friend, here are tips to ensure the well being of your pet and help you as a new cat parent.

  • Keep your cat safe
  • Make sure that your cat has a collar or ID that has your name, address, and contact details. You may keep your cat indoors but they can be curious creatures and would want to explore. If they ever get the chance to wander far from home and get lost, it would be easier to find them or concerned neighbors can return your pet.
  • Give your cat a healthy diet
  • A healthy diet will keep your cat happy and healthy. Cat food is available in any pet store but if you are unsure of your cat’s nutritional needs, consult your veterinarian and follow their recommendations closely. Be careful not to over feed your cat as this may cause obesity and more health problems such as diabetes, arthritis, and heart disease later on.
  • Take your cat to regular check ups
  • You should have regular visits to the veterinarian for check up at least once a year and make sure that their vaccinations are up to date. You can also check with local animal shelters or rescue groups for cheaper alternatives.
  • Spay or neuter your cat
  • This will keep them healthier and will help prevent cat over population. It will also hinder unwanted behaviors such as spraying urine for male cats and unwanted pregnancies for female cats.
  • House train your cat
  • You should invest in a litter box that is appropriately sized for your cat. Once they are aware of the litter box, cats will instinctively use it, however, to make sure that they use this as bathroom, place it in a quiet and accessible spot, remember to clean the litter box regularly and refrain from using heavily scented litters.
