Owning a dog is a serious matter. You must check to make sure your dog stays happy and healthy. Education is the key here, so do everything possible to make sure you are knowledgeable about dog care.
Hugs are great to give your pets, but kisses are not that great. Dog kissing may be adorable, but dogs have awfully dirty mouths. After all, dogs eat out of the garbage, drink from toilet bowls, and lick all over their body. Some believe the mouth of a dog is even cleaner than our own. This is not in the least bit true.
Since you’re not able to speak with your dog like a person, you should pay close attention to the dog’s non-verbal speech. If you notice your dog is hesitant to meet a particular person or dog, don’t force it. This could cause your dog to harm a person or another dog. Always be on the look out for non-verbal hints. If you see them, allow your dog to guide you in the next action you will take.
Beware of flea treatments for your dog. Many contain ingredients that are dangerous to children. Talk to your veterinarian about safer alternatives.
Do not fall prey to the temptation to feed table scraps to your dog. Doing so teaches it to beg and ruins its appetite for its regular food. Table scraps can actually lead to obesity and other health concerns. Put your dog in another room while the family eats, and do not allow him to reenter the dining space until dinner is done.
Practice training your dog around your home, where you and your pup can be alone. Don’t train in a park. Distractions occur, making it difficult to get your dog to focus on basic commands.
If you want to keep your dog outside, build him or her a small shelter. If your dog’s feet get wet, then the continued exposure can lead to stress and other health issues. A roomy shelter that protects from the windy, rainy, and snowy weather is the best option.
You can now start properly caring for your dog. Change your care habits to ensure that your dog is being properly taken care of. If you can’t offer a dog the best life it can have then there really isn’t a point in having a dog.
